About Til9
Located in Raleigh, North Carolina, I (Til9) create fun and upbeat electronic dance music (EDM) as well as hip hop, orchestral pieces, videogame music, and whatever else I'm in the mood for.
I'm influenced by decades of music: beginning with Linkin Park in elementary school; to Sum 41, Breaking Benjamin and Disturbed in middle school; to Metallica and All That Remains in high school; to Hands Up, eurodance, other cheesy fun electronic music, Rise Against, and pop punk in college. An interesting twist, I know!
Growing up, I learned to play trombone in school band (low brass represent!). In the process I picked up bass guitar instead of regular guitar because chords are hard. After years of playing in a band and having a blast, I developed a love and passion for all things electronic music and decided to focus more on that and doing my own thing with it.
In 2011 I heard about this thing called Fruity Loops (now FL Studio) and decided to give it a whirl after listening to hours of Basshunter and thinking, "I wanna make this". Hours and years of tutorials and production videos (and tons, and tons of VSTs and samples I didn't need) later, I decided that downtempo stuff was kinda cool and I wanted to do that. I drew a lot of inspiration from emerging EDM acts around 2013-2014, including Skrillex, Martin Garrix, Dillon Francis, and pretty much everything Monstercat.
